sociomateriality werkshop

Through hands-on engagement with rocks and minerals, this workshop invites participants to reflect on the materiality of these elements while uncovering the intersection of art, science, and design. Our exploration begins with observation and research, engaging with rocks and minerals from a transdisciplinary perspective. Participants will reflect on the characteristics of these materials, fostering a unique space for reflection, learning, and contemplation. This workshop encourages us to rethink our relationship with design materials and discover the powerful connections between art, science, and the natural world.

Inspired by sampling works from geoscience research, this project aims to capture the essence of scientific inquiry by developing initiatives that bridge citizen science, art science, and new medium research. Through community engagement, participants will explore and document local geological features, creating artistic interpretations that reflect their findings. By merging scientific exploration with creative expression, we aim to deepen our understanding of the environment while inspiring new forms of artistic dialogue.

Join us in this innovative journey to explore the intricate relationships between geology, creativity, and community engagement.

“the social and the material are considered to be inextricably related — there is no social that is not also material, and no material that is not also social.”
